In the South similar recipes can be found. Ela Ada is similar to Modak or Kozhukattai popular in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and other parts of the country and made especially during Ganesh Chaturthi and Patholi which uses turmeric leaves instead of banana leaves to steam the ada.
