Mumbai Food Review: India Bistro makes for an ideal dining experience

Nestled amidst a verdant patch in Chembur, India Bistro makes for an ideal dining experience with its high ceilings, tasteful ambience, and helpful staff. Most importantly, the food takes centre-stage and will not fail to please the senses; not just the tastebuds. For starters, take the cane basket of crisp puffy puris that appears on our table, complete with giant syringes filled with spicy and sweet chutneys respectively. Making and munching on your Pani Puri was never so much fun!

Our drinks follow and sure hit the spot. The Orange Mint Ice Tea is tangy-sweet with particles of fresh orange, while the cocktail, Shisha, true to its name, is served in a shisha contraption, with dry ice creating the necessary puffs of smoke! Our eyes gawk at the presentation, and the taste of the vodka blended with kala khatta syrup and black salt is interesting too.

The Paneer Tikka Multani topped with cheese is decent but the Feringhee Chicken is the real palate-pleaser with its succulent morsels of chicken marinated in peri-peri spices and grilled along with bell peppers and pineapple chunks. Served on a mini grill with live coals beneath, it stays warm to the last bite.

Before our mains arrive, we are fascinated by the mini pressure cookers that are placed before us, each bearing a sorbet to cleanse the palate. Naturally, our phones are whipped out to capture this amuse bouche that is a visual delight as well.

We do justice to the ongoing Clay Pot food festival with the Hyderabadi Dum Murg and the Seasonal Subz Hundi. Both dishes arrive in their earthen pots sealed with a layer of dough, which is cut to reveal the steaming flavours within. The Matka Kulfi rounds off the meal perfectly – served in its clay pot, covered in varq and thick with nuts.
Many more treats including Deg Hot Pot Gosht Korma, Bistro Style Fish Curry, Satrangi Biryani, and Arbi Aur Patta, up for sampling at this slow-cooked feast. Better hot foot it there fast!
